In my experience with 3 Art Studio MP's, yes a better tube will make it sound better. A better tube won't make it sound great, though. It won't blow you away, but it's functional. I picked one up in this recent sale and haven't had a chance to test it as a DI, but it has a reputation of being very usable in that regard (as does the original Tube MP).
