WebOct 31, 2012 · 0.87/TPI works for me (NS and NF external threads cut using compound at 29-degree). This is almost exactly what's needed when you use a properly radiused tool and start from the nominal diameter. For example, the total depth of cut (per compound scale) for 1"-8 ext. thread will be 0.87/8= .109" if I cut 1" rod with a blunted (radiused) tool.
